Rental Licenses are coming to Puyallup and Gig Harbor

On September 11, 2018 Puyallup and Gig Harbor city councils had a first reading of a new Ordinance that will require all landlord who rent or lease residential or commercial property in either, Puyallup or Gig Harbor,  to obtain a rental business license. Landlords who receive rents of more than $2,000 annually would be required to pay a $35 licensing fee. Landlords who receive $2,000 or less don't need to pay the licensing fee, however they are still required to obtain a rental business license.

There was no mention in either draft of the ordinances about inspections. Usually rental business license and inspection go together. I will let you know if/when that changes.

The city councils for both cities want an effective date of January 1, 2019 which require the council to pass the ordinance by October 17, 2018.
